Work has begun on the renovation of Sacred Heart Convent at New Town. Within a few weeks, from the current dust and noise, we will see the emergence of the much anticipated Josephite Mission and History Centre – a project which will showcase the story of the Srs of St Joseph in Tasmania. Under the direction of Greg Luttrell, from Luttrell Pyefinch Architects, the builder (Tascon) and graphic designer, Kate Owen, we will have a centre that will be available for individuals and groups to discover how the dream of Fr Julian Tenison Woods and Mary MacKillop has been lived out in Tasmania since 1887.
Rooms are being altered slightly to better set up displays and to accommodate programmes which will be available for groups, presentations, tours or seminars. The Chapel is being enhanced to provide an atmosphere conducive for prayer and reflection.
This project has been planned for some time by the Srs of St Joseph in order that the gift of Josephite spirituality can be more accessible to all people.
