Counselling

Currently, there is one Tasmanian Sister of St. Joseph involved in professional counselling as a family therapist.  Across the various groups of Josephites there are a number of counsellors.  Some work for Catholic organizations like MacKillop Family Services or Centacare.  Family systems work involves spending time with couples and sometimes with adults and children together.  A very lively exchange is often the result.  In any one session individuals or families might find themselves recognizing strengths they did not know they had; problem solving; building relationship and communication skills; making sense of their own experience; empathizing with the experience of another; gaining greater self knowledge; learning how to think and act more flexibly, and much more.

This Josephite mission of family therapy directly responds to our Constitutions:

Inspired by our charism for the poor and in keeping with our Josephite tradition, our mission is expressed in ministries to the deprived, degraded and disadvantaged in whatever circumstances of live they may be.
